BElla Italia Restaurant in Coventry

Traditionally, meals in Italy usually contain 3 or 4 courses. Meals are seen as a time to spend with family and friends ilike in Bella Pasta istead of just scoffing your face!
this meen the daily meal deal in Italy can be longer than in other cultures. During holidays, family feasts can last for hours.

Today, the traditional Italian menu is kept mainly for special events (such as weddings) while an everyday menu includes only the first and second course, the side dish and coffee. A notable aspect of Italian meals is that the primo or first course, is usually a more filling dish such as risotto or pasta. Modern Italian cuisine also includes single courses (all-in-one courses), providing carbohydrates and proteins at the same time (e.g. pasta and legumes).

In the 19th century, Giovanni Vialardi, chef to King Victor Emmanuel, wrote A Treatise of Modern Cookery and Patisserie with recipes "suitable for a modest household." Many of his recipes are for regional dishes from Turin including twelve for potatoes such as Genoese Cappon Magro. In 1829, Il Nuovo Cuoco Milanese Economico by Giovanni Felice Luraschi features Milanese dishes such as Kidney with Anchovies and Lemon and Gnocchi alla Romana. Gian Battista and Giovanni Ratto's La Cucina Genovese in 1871 addressed the cuisine of Liguria. This book contained the first recipe for pesto. La Cucina Teorico-Pratica written by Ippolito Cavalcanti has the first recipe for pasta with tomatoes. La scienza in cucina e l'arte di mangiare bene ("The Science of Cooking and the Art of Eating Well"), by Pellegrino Artusi, first published in 1891, is widely regarded as the canon of classic modern Italian cuisine, and it is still in print. Its recipes come mainly from Romagna and Tuscany, where he lived.

  1. This was my second visit to a Bella Itallia I enjoyed my first visit to the one in Birmingham but must say was very disappointed in my visit to Coventry. Nice venue quiet ambiance. Service ok customer interaction and friendliness very poor. Only wanted a light lunch as was going to the theatre so went for the set menu big mistake and totally disappointed. Very poor value for money. Fusilli Sorrentina

"Nice and simple, wholegrain fusilli, creamy buffalo mozzarella and basil leaves in an Italian tomato sauce" The menu says. I would have thought mozzarella and basil would be one of the main ingredients. I couldn't even find the mozzarella and basil they where so stingy with it and the teaspoon I had was dry. Then came the time to add the parmesan I made the mistake of picking up the grater to have it whisked out my hand with a worried look I might grate to much to make up for the lack of ingredients in the dish Lemon pre bought pudding was nice but for a meal for two costing over £22 plus a service charge for a light lunch I feel totally ripped off on this visit and didn't go away feeling like I had particularly special time or had value for money. I would even go as far to say the dish should be banned under the trades description act. It's a shame because it could really be a great venue and a restaurant is nothing without the food or friendliness.

  2. I go there all the time-I love the food there! The atmosphere is always nice and relaxed, yes you have to wait sometimes for your food, but it you want fast food then go to a takeaway! Would highly recommend this place to anyone!

  5. Went there tonight, although in a big group, the place wasn't full. Service was slow and the food was terrible. One person was served a bowl of spaghetti with nothing on it and my pizza was not only about 1mm thick, it wasn't sliced and you couldn't cut through it. Tried a coffee with Tia Maria and it was full of plastic bits. Chips were hard, some meals were cold and the dearest meal at £12 was very small. I wouldn't go back there, even if it was free.

  7. Restaurant for review:
    Bella Italia

    Review:
Very disappointing experience. Compared with other contempary Italian resturants the food in Coventry's Bella Italia is poor. The meal started well enough with deep fried mozarrella and onion marmalade but that was as good as it got. My main course of risotto with asparagus and pancetta was insultingly small and no bigger than a starter. My girlfriend's pasta was bland. At just under £10 for each of these dishes I expect much bettter. It no doubt says something about the paucity of decent restaurants in Coventry that the place was packed out on a monday night. The waitress serving us was pleasant and trying hard but was cleraly harrassed and complained of the place being under-staffed. Could not recommend, unfortunately.

  8. I agree with this review, we dined here before going to the Belgrade theatre, the food was very good and with a good wine selection.
